Strings of Paradise: the Ukulele and Steel Guitar is a unique exhibition that dives into the Hawaiian musical instrument tradition with a close look at the island state’s two most popular stringed exports. The show explores the obvious and not-so-obvious impact these instrumental ambassadors had on mainland culture and popular music, for instance, did you know that the first successful electric guitars were Hawaiian-style? An original production of the Fullerton Museum Center, Strings of Paradise covers over 100 years of Hawaiian musical heritage, from Hawaii’s time as an independent kingdom to statehood; the exhibit also displays shirts, dolls, and menu covers with Hawaiian musical designs.
