Strings of Paradise: the Ukulele and Steel Guitar

Strings of Paradise: the Ukulele and Steel Guitar is a unique exhibition that dives into the Hawaiian musical instrument tradition with a close look at the island state’s two most popular stringed exports. The show explores the obvious and not-so-obvious impact these instrumental ambassadors had on mainland culture and popular music, for instance, did you know that the first successful electric guitars were Hawaiian-style? An original production of the Fullerton Museum Center, Strings of Paradise covers over 100 years of Hawaiian musical heritage, from Hawaii’s time as an independent kingdom to statehood; the exhibit also displays shirts, dolls, and menu covers with Hawaiian musical designs. The rare and historic instruments presented include many from the Mac Yasuda collection. Limited edition posters by Josh Agle (aka "Shag) on sale in the gift shop.
