Spirited: Prohibition in America

Spirited: Prohibition in America

November 12th, 2016 - January 8th, 2017

On January 17, 1920, a new day dawned. As the 18th Amendment to the Constitution took effect, Americans could no longer manufacture, sell or transport intoxicating liquors. Spirited: Prohibition in America explores the tumultuous years of 1920 to 1933, showing visitors what lead to the passage of the 18th Amendment, how the "wets" fought back, and how prohibition proved to be much more than a constitutional hiccup. This exhibit has been made possible through NEH on the Road, special initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities. It is brought to you by mid-America Arts Alliance. Spirited: Prohibition in America was organized by the National Constitution Center Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
