We have two poet features for Light the Mic! Come see Ceasar Avelar (@ceasarkavelar) & Donato Martinez (@donatomartinez1) perform for August's Downtown Fullerton Artwalk! We hope to see you Friday, August 4th, to see these two amazing poets and our musical feature, Greg Artavia (@gregartaviamusic) Ceasar Avelar is a Blue-collar Central American Poet, who writes exclusively for the working class. He is this year’s Pomona poet laureate and Author of God of the Air Hose and other Blue Collar Poems published by El Martillo Press. Donato Martinez was born in small pueblo, Garcia de la Cadena, Zacatecas, Mexico, and immigrated into the USA at six years old. He teaches English Composition, Literature, and Creative Writing, Chicano Studies at Santa Ana College and has been a co-coordinator of the Puente Program for 25 years, presenting workshop sessions at both the regional and state level. He hosts and curates many artistic events that feature poetry and music at his campus or in the community. He has a self-published collection with three other Inland Empire poets, Tacos de Lengua. He is a poet who writes about his barrio upbringing, his community, his culture, his bi-cultural and bilingual identities, and other complexities of life. His work is influenced by the sounds and pulse of the streets, people, music, and the magic of language.
